We have summarized the knowledge about a significant number of HIPP-proteins that have been identified in the proteomes of plasmodesmata (PD). Plasmodesmata are nanochannels that mediate symplastic connectivity within plant tissues, playing pivotal roles in intercellular communication during plant development, as well as in responses to biotic and abiotic stress.
